Date:

The following is an event announcement from SMC.

“The Impression That I Get” is Concert Theme

Santa Monica College’s Emeritus Concert Band under the baton of Yosuke Miyoshi will combine with the Santa Ana College Concert Band under the direction of Adam Gerling to present “The Impression That I Get,” free concert on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. The performance will be held in The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, located at 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.

“I am excited to share all the hard work the Emeritus Concert Band has done to perform this beautiful concert of French Impressionist music,” said Conductor Miyoshi. “The band will be featuring music by Impressionist composers Debussy, Ravel, and Boulanger, with some fun twists to their music. As an ode to the title of our concert — “The Impression That I Get” — the band will also perform a medley of ska music, and will end with “March Blue Spring,” a rousing march by Masafumi Suzuki. We will feature some of our incredibly talented band members as soloists, including Nick Diakatos and Howard Crawford on saxophone. Don’t miss out on this great concert. I cannot wait to share this music with you!”

Ample free parking will be available on the premises. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.

SMC’s Emeritus Concert Band is a group of musicians with a wide age range. The variety of musical and life experience that each band member brings to the group fuels an environment of ongoing inspiration. New members are always welcome, and can find out how to join by calling 310-434-4306.
