City, Spoke and Metro Bike Share Celebrate New Connections at for MANGo with Community Bike Ride on Saturday

Date:

This Saturday at 10 a.m., Santa Monica Spoke is holding a community bike ride on the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway to celebrate the completion of a separated bike lane and bike path that provide a connection where the I-1O freeway had separated the city’s bike paths and bisects Michigan Avenue.

The ride starts and ends at the 17th Street Metro E-Line (nee Expo Line) Station. The ride is a “no-drop” line that will run at a leisurely pace and is designed for riders of all skill levels. It will include a trip on the recently opened infrastructure that connects MANGo to the eastern portion of the city including the two-way protected bikeway across the 20th Street bridge.

While initially dreamed up by bicycle activists after the opening of the E-Line (then the Expo Line) in 2012 and MANGo in 2015 as a small project that would have big benefits by closing the gap between the bike path and greenway, it took nearly a decade for the project to be completed.

But now the project is completed and will be officially opened this weekend. If you want to join the party but need help planning your trip, please visit https://www.metro.net/riding/trip-planner/.
