If you are planning to travel on the Expo line this weekend, be prepared for some slowdowns.
Metro announced this week that starting at Friday, February 10 at 9 p.m. through Sunday, February 12, the tracks between the Culver City station and Bundy will be closed and commuters will have to take a shuttle between them. Metro anticipates the closure will add about 20 minutes to commuters’ trips.
Metro’s The Source reported Thursday that the closure is to allow crews to “begin one-year warranty repairs and upgrades.”
The affected stops include. Palms, Westwood/Rancho Park and Expo/Sepulveda. According to Metro, though shuttles will be scheduled to match train arrival times “as best as possible,” trips are expected to take 20 minutes longer than usual.
According to Metro, “On Friday, Feb. 10, the last complete eastbound trips depart Santa Monica at approximately: 7:42 p.m., 7:56, 8:08, 8:21 and 8:36. The last complete westbound trips depart 7th/Metro at approximately: 7:55 p.m., 8:01, 8:07, 8:13 and 8:19. All times are subject to work-related delays.”
Expo Phase II, which is the stretch from Culver City to Downtown Santa Monica, officially opened to the public last May, connecting the beachside to Downtown L.A. by rail for the first time in more than half a century.
The closure is one of two scheduled this month. According to a flyer circulated by Metro to Santa Monica residents, from February 24 through February 26, the tracks between the Sepulveda Station and Downtown Santa Monica will be closed for similar maintenance.
