The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women, is proud to present the 2018 OWL International Women’s Day Breakfast to herald Women’s History Month. The annual breakfast gathers professionals from throughout the community to network and enjoy a wonderful breakfast and stage program.
The OWL International Women’s Day Breakfast will be held on March 1, 2018, from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, 1700 Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90401. The event’s sponsors include Water Garden and Santa Monica Travel & Tourism. Presale tickets for members start at $70; non-member tickets and tickets purchased at the door are $80.
Echoing 2018’s powerful start in the wake of such budding initiatives as #TimesUp and Women’s March, among others, the theme of this year’s breakfast is “Nevertheless She Persisted: Honoring women who fight against all forms of discrimination against women.” The breakfast will champion silence-breakers, achievers and many more outstanding women who overcame barriers and shattered glass ceilings in their careers, lives and beyond.
This year, the “OWLie” honorees include Maya Paley, Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement, National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles, and Patty DeDominic, CEO, Chief Life Coach and Author, and founder of multiple multi-million dollar businesses. The esteemed honorees join the company of past award-winning recipients including actress Jennifer Garner, CALIFORNIALIST founder Bettina Duval, documentary director Amy Ziering and Assistant City Manager Elaine Polachek, among others.
Notes Paley, “There is nothing more inspiring than a group of women lifting others up by calling out all forms of misogyny and discrimination against women in our society. We must continue to speak truth to power about how women continue to face sexual harassment and violence, attacks on our bodily autonomy, unequal pay and disproportionate levels of poverty. I am honored to be this year’s OWLie Honoree at the International Women’s Day Breakfast.”
Maya Paley is the Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement at the National Council of Jewish Women, Los Angeles. She leads NCJW|LA’s policy advocacy on a variety of social justice issues, including reproductive rights and justice, human trafficking, gender-related violence, and economic justice. Maya created NCJW|LA’s Advocacy Training Project, which trains participants to be effective at advocacy through six annual workshops. She also co-founded and launched The Talk Project, a peer-to-peer sexual violence prevention and awareness program in high schools, and the Human Trafficking Outreach Project, which helps implement an important California state law to provide trafficking victims with access to help. Maya earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from UC Berkeley and her master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University, with a concentration on Economic and Political Development and a focus on gender and migration.
Patty DeDominic built and sold several multi-million dollar companies. She founded PDQ Careers, an HR consulting company that provided executive search and staffing solutions to organizations such as AT&T, University of Southern California, Children’s Hospitals, and The Automobile Clubs of California, Arizona and Texas. She was named CEO of the Year by the LA Business Journal, was inducted into the Women’s Business Owners Hall of Fame, is the former Chairperson of the Foundation for SCORE, and was the former President of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
The event will be hosted by The Organization of Women Leaders (OWL), an organization celebrating and inspiring women to join and develop personally and build success for their business through networking and partnerships, enhancing the wellbeing of each other and the community.
