The following is a submission from the Police Athletic League
The Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) kicked off the holiday season with two joyful events that brought together local youth, families, police officers, firefighters, and community partners to celebrate, connect, and spread holiday cheer.
On the morning of Tuesday, December 2, 15 PAL youth and their families participated in Target’s annual “Heroes & Helpers” event, joining forces with 20 Santa Monica police officers for a festive morning of holiday shopping. Families began lining up at 6:15 a.m. at the Target store at 16th and Wilshire, where each youth received a $100 gift card and teamed up with an officer to shop for their holiday wishes. The event, hosted by Target, provided a meaningful experience for some of the city’s most vulnerable youth while reinforcing PAL’s mission to build trust and positive relationships between young people and law enforcement.
Just one week later, on Tuesday, December 9, PAL hosted its highly anticipated annual “Holiday Workshop,” where the magic of the season came to life with the grand arrival of Santa Claus aboard a Santa Monica Fire Engine, flanked by a Santa Monica police cruiser. PAL youth eagerly welcomed Santa and then enjoyed a festive afternoon of holiday crafts, delicious food, music, and time with friends, mentors, and community volunteers. Each participant received a special holiday gift, and thanks to support from the LA Strong Foundation, additional donations of clothing, toys, and food were provided to PAL families.
“We are truly blessed, and our heartfelt thanks go to Target, the Santa Monica Police Department, the Santa Monica Fire Department, and the LA Strong Foundation for their generous support,” said Eula Fritz, Director of the Santa Monica Police Activities League. “Together, we created two unforgettable events that delivered more than just gifts and smiles—they fostered meaningful connections and a sense of belonging during the holiday season.”
Both events exemplify PAL’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, supportive spaces for youth, especially during times of year that can be difficult for families facing economic challenges. Special appreciation goes out to all of PAL’s dedicated staff, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make these celebrations possible.
