he SMC Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery will offer free guided tours of the “Concrete Hope | Esperanza Concreta” exhibition. The tours will be led by SMC Art 80, 82, & 84 Gallery Exhibition & Display students. The tours will be held Thursday, April 9, and Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. in the SMC Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery, located at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.

The tours are free, but reservations are required and may be made at Eventbrite.

The “Concrete Hope | Esperanza Concreta” exhibition — curated by Erika Hirugami, founder of CuratorLove —showcases works by 38 Latine/x photographers and lens-based artists. The exhibition is part of FotoSoCal by CuratorLove,a constellation of exhibitions bringing together more than 20 community college galleries and affiliated spaces across Southern California. The exhibition will be on view until May 9, 2026.

SMC’s Art 80, 82, & 84 Gallery Exhibition & Display is a specialty course that includes actual hands-on experience in exhibition planning, research, operation, and management of exhibition spaces. The course aims “to demystify the art world and highlight how arts professionals often wear multiple hats,” said Kim Garcia, who teaches the course. “SMC’s students include aspiring artists, curators, and arts workers, and the exhibition tours offer a great chance to engage the community and foster discussions about art.”

More information about “Concrete Hope” guided tours, as well as upcoming ‘In Conversation’ artist roundtables, is available at smc.edu/barrett.
