City Seeks Leaders for Measure GS Oversight Boards, Other Commissions

Date:

With a new year comes new chances to take leadership roles with the City of Santa Monica. Following the passage of Measure GS in November, a new oversight board will be created in 2025 to oversee spending of funds from the new measure – 11 new positions.

If you’re interested in volunteering in a leadership role, but aren’t interested in accounting or fiscal oversight, there are almost always positions open on other boards and commissions. There are more than usual at the moment because in addition to the regular turnover, some seats have opened as a result of the elections (for example, Dan Hall’s old seat on the Pier Commission has opened due to his ascent to the City Council.) A full list of boards and commissions with openings can be found at the end of the article.

If you are interested in applying, you’ll need to submit an application to the City Clerk. Assuming you qualify for the board (different boards and commissions have different requirements for Boards and Commissions), your application will be posted online. The City Council will then choose amongst the nominees. For more details, click here for the city’s official guidelines and get started.
