The Street Seen: Auto Club – Boss 1810 Ocean Ave @ Vicente Terrace: “The 1810 Ocean Ave building is constructed in 1928 as an Automobile Club branch office. While unfortunately extensively altered, the building still exists and is now occupied by Capo, an upscale Italian restaurant.” Read more here.

Pasjoli Switches to Prix Fixe Menu: Dave Beran’s acclaimed French restaurant at 2732 Main St. is transitioning to a prix fixe only menu starting Sept. 16. Beran has previously tested the prix fixe format at Pasjoli the duck-focused canard a la pressed will come in at $125. The bar will remain a la carte and walk in only with new additions to its menu like a burger and duck wings. An abbreviated three course prix fixe priced at $65 also be available in the main dining room until 6 p.m. More details here.

Compost Giveaway at City Yards (Saturday 9am – 2pm): “Please bring gloves and containers if you’re picking up compost – a limited supply of bags are available. Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education (SMMUSD) Candidate Forum (Sunday 6 – 8pm): All four candidates, incumbents Jon Kean, Maria Leon-Vazquez, and Jennifer Smith and challenger Christine Falaguerra are expected to attend the forum hosted by League of Women Voters and Santa Monica Committee for Racial Justice. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Thelma Terry Center at Virginia Avenue Park. More details here.

Lifeguards Take Up Fight for First Responder Status: This SMDP article details the “Lifeguards First” campaign, gives open-water lifeguards the same federal “emergency first responder” designation as police officers, firefighters & EMTs. SMDP Pics and Observations from Main St. Day of the Dog Block Party: “With temperatures approaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit, pups of all sizes were intent on cooling down, using various sprinkler and water stations to stay hydrated. The festival also included a 100-foot pool party for dogs to give their whole body a reprieve from the heat, as well as an area where they could play in a makeshift snow pile. Aside from the cool offerings, dogs and their owners were able to go into multiple photo booths, get samples of pet exhibitor products and eat specially-made treats at various booths.” This write-up has some fun pics from the event.

Local Olympic Volleyball Player Miles Partain is Pumped for Santa Monica’s Olympic Spot: In this SMDP interview Partain says “I grew up playing at that beach” and his partner Benesh added that it would be “iconic” to play in Santa Monica with the Pier in the background light.

The Santa Monica History Museum is hosting its Annual Gala on September 29: This years event, a comedy and variety show, entitled Stands Up for History, is hosted by Nicole Blaine (Crow Comedy Club) and will offer delicious bites and libations from James Beard Award-winning Chef Mary Sue Milliken, a live and silent auction featuring priceless experiences, and an amazing showcase of stories that will entertain, amuse, and move you.   • Main St. Farmers Market (Sunday 8:30am – 1:30pm): Chasing away those summer time blues.. Lazy Dog Mountain Band will be joining the Main Street Farmers Market this Sunday from 10am-1pm.  Also at the market this week, the YARI Youth  Animal Rescue  Initiative bringing adoption information and kid activities including facepainting and a friendship bracelet project!!  Cheers to cooler weather and fresh fruits and veggies!!
  • Americana in the Park (Sunday 4 – 7pm): Head over to Gandara Park for this annual music concert series featuring two bands each week every Sunday in September.
