Via reader Bradley Ewing comes word that new stop signs and road markings are being installed at the intersection of 10th and Idaho. Idaho has been a hot spot for improvements after a fatal crash that killed bicyclist Tania Mooser on October 27 of last year.
When you see the city making improvements to the transportation grid, let us know and shoot a picture and we’ll include it in our Eyes on the Street series.
And there’s at least two other opportunities to see the city in-action making improvements. In the city’s “Take the Friendly Road” newsletter, they announced a pair of street improvements that will be in place or under construction by the end of the week:
Bergamot Area Improvements: 26th St. from Olympic Blvd. to Broadway
As part of the Bergamot Area Improvements to create a safe and connected network between transit and local destinations, the City will begin construction on 26th Street from Olympic Boulevard to Broadway this week. The project will add a protected bike lane, a new crosswalk at Olympic Boulevard and 26th Street, and signal timing adjustments to give bicyclists and pedestrians a head start to cross. Construction is anticipated to be completed January 2025.
New Crosswalk: Broadway & 19th Street
A new crosswalk will be installed on the east leg of Broadway at 19th Street. Yield markings and pedestrian signage will also be added to help make pedestrians more visible and reinforce the requirements to yield to pedestrians. Two parking spaces on the north side of Broadway between 19th Street and 19th Court (the alley east of 19th Street) will be removed to improve visibility at the intersection. To minimize conflicts, vehicles on 19th Street will be required to turn right onto Broadway. Construction is anticipated to last several weeks and we thank you in advance for your patience. Additional enhancements will occur in the near future as part of the Broadway Safety Project between 5th and 26th streets.
