The popular beach bike path will be closed in both directions at the Santa Monica Pier for at least a couple of weeks while the city installs netting designed to keep birds from nesting under the pier. The pedestrian path is currently unaffected, at least for now.
Journalist Fabian Lewkowicz took a peak underneath to see what construction was occurring for Santa Monica Closeup.
Santa Monica Pier maintenance crews were busy today installing nets beneath the iconic pier. The nets aim to deter pigeons from nesting in the structure.
