There’s always something to look forward to here. This week’s highlights include National Night Out with the Santa Monica Police Department, a lineup of Australian talent at the Twilight Pier concert, help plan the future of Lincoln Blvd., another picnic on the Promenade, and more jazz on the lawn with food trucks.
National NIght out
Join your friends and neighbors for Santa Monica Police Department’s 32nd annual National Night Out event this Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center parking lot. There will be live music, raffles, food, games, and a chance to meet your local police officers and other community safety personnel.
“National Night Out is an opportunity for the Santa Monica Police Department and the community to celebrate the exceptional relationship we share,” according to a press release by SMPD. “The City of Santa Monica continues to be a safe place to live, work, and visit because of its strong neighborhood spirit and active community involvement among neighbors, community groups, businesses, and youth organizations.”
There will be a free bike valet and Big Blue Bus is offering free rides to those going to the event. Just download and print out this coupon to show to your motor coach operator.

Australia Rocks the pier
This Thursday at 7 p.m., the Twilight Pier Concert series continues with a night of Australian talent: Ben Browning of Cut Copy and DMA’s.

Plan the future of LIncoln Blvd.
Santa Monica is planning to reshape Lincoln south of the I-10 freeway now that it has taken control of the thoroughfare from CalTrans. This Thursday is a chance for you to chime in about what you want to see there in the future.
“Please join your friends, neighbors and local businesses for the second ‘LiNC’ COMMUNITY WORKSHOP to weigh-in on exciting proposals for Lincoln Boulevard south of the I-10 Freeway,” according to the workshop’s Facebook event page. “This event will feature refined streetscape concepts and business improvement initiatives, and will seek guidance from the community to resolve several key questions that affect the design.”

Picnic on the Promenade with Chalk art
On Friday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., break out of the office and head to the Third Street Promenade for a picnic. Every Friday through August 22, Downtown Santa Monica is hosting a pop-up picnic venue with tables, chairs, and fun activities on the Promenade between Arizona Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd.
This week, picnickers can “create a chalk art masterpiece and build your own floral wristlet and hair clip,” according to DTSM’s website.

Jazz on the Lawn returns
Every Sunday this month, you can head down to Stewart Park in Santa Monica for a free jazz concert. This Sunday, you can hear “smoldering vocalist and ace percussionist,” Estaire Godinez, perform, according to the city’s website.
Each concert also features a lineup of delicious food truck options. This week, you can enjoy The Grilled Cheese Truck, Hungry Nomad, and The Pudding Truck with your free concert.
