SANTA MONICA, Calif. – On October 29, the City of Santa Monica and local partners invite residents, business leaders, and policy experts to the Community Climate Action Summit. This event offers everyone the opportunity to come and collaborate on the next stage of Santa Monica’s climate policy. The Summit is part of a ground-up visioning process that will eventually result in the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), a framework that will launch in late 2017, with goals to be met by 2050. The Summit follows recent City climate policy successes in carbon emission reductions.
“Santa Monicans are incredible stewards of the environment and have made leaps in reducing our carbon emissions, using solar, switching to electric vehicles and public transit, and much more,” said Mayor Tony Vazquez. “This is the beginning of the next chapter in our environmental leadership, and it’s imperative that the community build this plan with us to imagine what a carbon neutral Santa Monica might look like.”
Here’s the summit lineup:
9 a.m. – Halloween-themed Kidical Mass
10 a.m. – Check-in; free child care and youth activities
10:30 a.m. – Downtown Community Plan: The Future of Mobility

The event, co-produced with community partners Climate Action Santa Monica (CASM) and Sustainable Works, will feature expert speakers, group workshops and other activities, including a Green Living Expo, photo booth, solar-powered DJs, live graphic note taking, and a social hour hosted by CASM. The event will also include a Pecha Kucha slam, which offers attendees the opportunity to share their ideas and actions through a presentation format limited to 20 slides or images at 20 seconds each. The Future of Mobility discussion at 10:30 a.m. is the third and final community outreach meeting for the Downtown Community Plan, which is set to be released in February 2017.
