For their role in helping to make Breeze Bike Share — L.A. County’s first public bike-share system — happen, Hulu and CycleHop have been nominated together for 2015 Livable Streets-Friendly Business Streetsie award.
CycleHop is company behind the “smart bike” technology that powers Breeze Bike Share and the Internet media company Hulu, which is based in Santa Monica, has agreed to sponsor the bike-share system with an annual commitment of $675,000 for at least the next five years.
Hulu’s sponsorship helps offset costs of running the bike-share system during the first year when the deficit is expected to be larger than normal as membership ramps up. It could also go toward investing in a larger system, education, or even kiosks that would dispense subsidized bike helmets.

Reader voting accounts for one-half of the scoring this year, with one-quarter going to SBLA staff voting, and another one-quarter going to a SBLA board vote.
Santa Monica also has two other nominees in the running in two different categories this year: Santa Monica’s transportation and strategic planning manager, Francie Stefan, who was nominated in the “civil servant” category, and Assemblymember Richard Bloom, who is in the running in the elected official category.
