Supervisor Horvath Shares Update on Franklin Fire on Last Day of Red Flag Conditions

Date:

The following is a submission from Supervisor Lindsey Horvath.

The Franklin Fire has now grown to nearly 4,000 acres. Containment has begun, currently reported at 7% — this is a critical step in ongoing efforts to manage this devastating fire. Over 1,500 first responders are on the frontlines working tirelessly to protect lives, property, and the City of Malibu and surrounding communities.

This morning, LA County Third District Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath shared an update on the Franklin Fire alongside LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone, LA County Sheriff Robert Luna, LA County Office of Emergency Management Director Kevin McGowan, Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart, Mayor Pro Tem Maryann Riggins, and leaders involved in addressing the emergency.

“When we come together, we can face even the toughest challenges, and that has been evident in our community’s unified response to the Franklin Fire,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Third District. “We will continue to do everything possible to support our Malibu and surrounding communities through every stage of this emergency and the recovery that follows.”

The collaborative response includes over a dozen agencies across local, county, state, and federal levels, such as the Los Angeles County Fire Department, CalFire, the California Highway Patrol, FEMA, the Red Cross, and neighboring counties providing essential resources.

Mandatory evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect, and road closures are ongoing in impacted areas. Residents are strongly urged to follow all evacuation orders and guidance from emergency personnel. These measures are in place to safeguard lives, and compliance is critical. For real-time updates and emergency alerts, visit AlertLA.org.

Supervisor Horvath has been in direct communication with leaders from Malibu, Topanga, Pepperdine, and neighboring communities to coordinate emergency response efforts.

Yesterday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors ratified a local state of emergency declaration. California Governor Gavin Newsom secured additional FEMA assistance in addressing the emergency. These efforts have unlocked additional resources and expedited the County’s ability to address immediate needs while laying the groundwork for recovery.
