Rep Lieu Secures Nearly $2 Million for SaMo Community Projects: This includes a $850,000 for the Santa Monica Affordable Housing Rehab Project, $500,000 for the Lincoln Neighborhood Corridor Safety Enhancements, and $469,100 for the Cloverfield Services Center Interim Housing Program Renovations. The Lincoln Blvd. money “will add pedestrian lighting, upgraded crosswalks, and other safety features that will dramatically enhance safety for pedestrians, vehicles, and transit riders in the neighborhoods along Lincoln Blvd. This phase is part of a larger project that includes upgraded crosswalks, landscaped medians, pedestrian refuges, pedestrian lighting, and bicycle connectors to improve safety in the community.” More details here. Santa Monica Conservancy Looking for Nominations for 2024 Preservation Awards: “Each year they honor exemplary projects and contributors to the preservation of Santa Monica’s architectural and cultural heritage. The 2024 Preservation Awards will be announced during a special presentation at our Annual Meeting this May. The deadline for nominations is March 27. You can download the form here. Questions and nominations should be sent to info@smconservancy.org. “Why Santa Monica Pier’s Ferris Wheel Will Go Dark This Saturday Night: The Pacific Park Ferris wheel is “going dark” from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday as part of the 18th annual Earth Hour. Known as “The Biggest Hour on Earth,” the movement encourages people to switch off their lights at home and monuments to darken their beacons to show support for the planet and raise awareness awareness of environmental issues. SaMo Lion’s Club Collecting Donations of Old Eyeglasses & Hearing Aids: All eyeglasses and hearing aids are taken to a facility where Lions volunteers clean, repair, sort by refraction, and shipped to to help thousands of people throughout, Southern California, Mexico and the Philippines.
