Cloverfield Commons: Airport -> Housing Ballot Measure Is Still On

Date:

Earlier this week, Santa Monica Next reported that the measure that would allow housing to be built on the land that is currently the Santa Monica Airport. The reporting was based on conversations with two people close to the issue, however yesterday one of the lead supporters of the measure released a letter to supporters refuting our reporting stating clearly that the organizations supporting the measure are still actively pursuing its passage. The letter is below:

Dear Cloverfield Commons supporter,

A recent article in the online Santa Monica Next publication erroneously implied that the drive for a ballot initiative to include housing in the redevelopment of the Santa Monica airport land has been ended.  That is not the case.

Cloverfield Commons and our allied organizations are continuing to gather signatures to put the measure on the ballot.  We welcome your support and volunteer efforts in reaching out to Santa Monica voters.  When the signature drive is over, we will certainly let you know.

To sign up for a volunteer shift, or to receive a petition to circulate among friends and neighbors, please contact Sumaya Adena at saden@cluejustice.org.

Many organizations are working together on this effort, including:

The Cloverfield Commons Leadership Team

Santa Monica Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice

UniteHere Local 11 (the hospitality workers’ union)

Leaders of Santa Monicans for Renters Rights

Thank you!

The Cloverfield Commons Team
