The following is a lightly edited story first printed in the city manager’s newsletter.

Pacifica Christian High School’s girls soccer team made history this season, turning a championship breakthrough into a deep postseason run that brought CIF State playoff games to Santa Monica parks. Pacifica is located on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Fresh off the program’s first-ever CIF Southern Section Division 7 title, Pacifica Christian advanced to the CIF State Division 5 tournament and quickly proved it belonged. The team hosted its first-round matchup at Historic Belmar Park on March 3, where it defeated Long Beach Poly High School in a dramatic 4-3 overtime win after the teams were tied at three at the end of regulation.

The playoff run continued two days later at Airport Park, where Pacifica Christian hosted Kennedy High School in the state semifinals. In a tightly contested match, Pacifica fell 1-0, ending a remarkable 13-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the season marked a milestone for the program, which not only captured its first CIF title but also made its first-ever appearance in the state playoffs.
