City Invites Santa Monica Residents to Share Opinions on Third Street Promenade Entertainment Zone

Date:

Earlier this week, the city, together with Downtown Santa Monica, Inc., launched a new survey to gather resident feedback on the Third Street Promenade Entertainment Zone. The “Entertainment Zone Survey – Residents” aims to assess how the promotion of expanded entertainment options — meant to enhance the visitor experience and support local businesses — is affecting those who live nearby.

On the Third Street Promenade, the “entertainment zone,” which opened earlier this year, is a designated area where the City of Santa Monica allows a wider range of street performances, music, and programmed activities to help create a livelier and more engaging experience for visitors. Inside the zone at specific times, it is legal to carry alcoholic drinks purchased at Promenade businesses. The zone is intended to boost foot traffic, support local shops and restaurants, and maintain the Promenade’s role as a regional destination.

Residents aged 21 and older who are familiar with the Entertainment Zone are encouraged to take part. The confidential survey should take about 5–7 minutes to complete and will help city planners and community stakeholders better understand the impact of the zone on everyday life.

City officials stressed the importance of resident voices in shaping future decisions. “Your input is invaluable,” the survey invitation states, noting the feedback will be used strictly for research and community-planning purposes.

It will be interesting to compare the results of this survey with the two done by the wildly inaccurate Pulse Polls conducted by an anti-union dark money group. Pulse Polls twice asked respondents about the entertainment zone this year, and both times reported large majorities of Santa Monicans opposing it. While the influence of Pulse Polls has waned in recent years, they are still a key part of the Santa Monica misinformation eco-system.

The survey link was shared publicly this week. Residents interested in weighing in are asked to complete the questionnaire soon.
