Learn to Spin Yarn at the Santa Monica Public Library

Date:

The following is a submission from the City of Santa Monica.

Learn how to create your own hand-spun yarn at this free workshop on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1 – 4 p.m., at the Montana Ave. Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library, located at 1704 Montana Ave.

Volunteers from the Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild teach you how to spin yarn using a spindle and wool and demonstrate yarn-making on a spinning wheel. Attendees are welcome to drop-in any time during the event for a yarn spinning lesson or to simply observe this meditative process. Space and supplies are limited and available on a first-arrival basis.

The Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild is a group of hand-spinning enthusiasts in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas and beyond. Its members incorporate hand-spinning in a wide variety of fiber arts including knitting, weaving, rug-making, felting, crochet and many others. See Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild.

Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible and welcomes persons of all abilities. For special accommodations, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8600 at least one week prior to the event. Arrive sustainably! Secure bike parking is available for cyclists or ride the Big Blue Bus to the library and plan your trip at bigbluebus.com.
