Fabulous Fables: A Free, Community Pride Celebration at the Santa Monica Pier on June 21

The Santa Monica Pier invites families to celebrate love, diversity, and storytelling at Fabulous Fables: Drag Queen Pride Family-Edition, a free event on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hosted inside the historic Merry Go-Round Building, this joyful celebration is designed especially for families with children 10 and under.

Presented in partnership with The Crow Comedy Club as part of the citywide SaMo Pride festivities, Fabulous Fables features a vibrant lineup of activities:

– 10 a.m.Barnyard Madness with the Three Little Pigs by Santa Monica Playhouse.

– 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Face Painting.

– 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Community Vendor Shopping.

– 10:45 a.m.: Poetry Reading by Santa Monica Poet Laureate Anne Carmack.

– 11 a.m.: Drag Queen Storytelling with Pickle and Lil Miss Hot Mess, plus a performance by Queen Angelina.

– 12 p.m.: Books & Cookies Musical Storytime.

– 1 p.m.: Event Conclusion.

Attendees can also enjoy a pint-sized pride parade, colorful face painting, and a curated selection of vendors offering treats and treasures. Fabulous Fables is a celebration of love, laughter, and belonging—where every child is encouraged to be bold, be kind, and be themselves.

“The Pier has always been a place where stories come to life—whether through the laughter of children on the carousel or the shared memories of generations,” said Jim Harris, Executive Director and Historian of the Santa Monica Pier. “Fabulous Fables continues this tradition by creating a space where every family feels seen, celebrated, and connected through the power of storytelling and community.”

“Fabulous Fables: Drag Queen Pride Family-Edition” is produced by the Santa Monica Pier Corporation, along with these great partners and sponsors The Crow, SaMo Pride, Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier, PAINT:LAB, Healing Grounds coffee truck and Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath.
