The Mexican Flag Will Fly at the Ferris Wheel to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Date:

The following is a submission from Pier Communications.

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will “high-light” Cinco de Mayo with a dazzling 90-foot-tall display of the Mexican flag waving across its iconic Ferris wheel, along with vibrant red, white, and green lights, patterns, and festive icons on Monday, May 5.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The holiday is often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16.

Widely recognized across Southern California, Cinco de Mayo celebrations will light up the region—and Pacific Park will join in by illuminating the night sky in red, white, and green for the evening.

The Pacific Wheel’s 174,000 LED lights are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s structure including the 40 spokes and two hubs. The world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations while the programming and display software presents imaging up to 24 frames per second to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.

Where:           Pacific Park, 380 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
