Get a Comic Book, Attend a Mini-Con, Make Your Own! It’s Free Comic Book Day at the Library This Weekend

Free Comic Book Day is coming back to the Santa Monica Public Library on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The Library is teaming up with the proprietors of the Santa Monica Comics Company (formerly of Hi De Ho Comics) to offer comic book giveaways, comics crafts, prizes, and a Mini Creator Con!  

Schedule of events for Saturday, May 3, 2025

Main Library (601 Santa Monica Blvd.)

  • 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Comic book giveaways in Lobby (while supplies last) 
  • 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Meet comic book creators at our Mini Con in the Courtyard! 
  • 11 a.m. – noon: Create Your Own Comic workshop in the Café Space 
  • 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Drop-in comics crafts in the Café Space 

Montana Branch (1704 Montana Ave.) and Pico Branch (2201 Pico Blvd.)

  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Comic book giveaways and scavenger hunt 

Participating comic book creators include Don Nguyen, Tim Zajac, Comadres y Comics Podcast, Eddie deAngelini, Madeleine Holly-Rosing, Steven Prince, Charlie Stickney, Darin Henry, Fang Fang, Chiquita Dineyanti, Shaqueta L. Smith, and David Lucarelli.

Next week, the two other Branch Libraries will have comic book giveaways during open hours on Tuesday, May 6, at the Fairview Branch (2101 Ocean Park Blvd.) and on Wednesday, May 7, at the Ocean Park Branch (2601 Main St.), while supplies last.
