The festive concert program includes the world premiere performance of “The Coastal Splendor March,” a new composition by virtuosic clarinet player Gunnery Sergeant Parker Gaims. A member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band — founded in 1798 and America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization — guest artist Gaimswill also perform clarinet solos during the afternoon concert for two versions of “Solo de Concours,” one composed by Henri Rabaud and arranged by Harry Gee, the other composed by André Messager, arranged by Paul Gogel, and performed under the baton of guest conductor Mark Johnsen.

Gunnery Sergeant Gaims will also lead a free clarinet masterclass withcollaborative performer Dr. Mitsuko Morikawa on piano on Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m., in The Music Hall at the SMC Performing Arts Center (1310 11th Street, Santa Monica).
