The Santa Monica College (SMC) Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery will present “Still Blowin’ – 42 Years of Glass at SMC,” an informative and historical retrospective of Glass Art at Santa Monica College .

The free exhibition showcasing glassworks by more than 20 artists is open to the public Aug. 1 through Sept. 6. A free opening reception will be held in the gallery on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The SMC Pete & Susan Barrett Gallery is located at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica. Entry is through the Performing Arts Center’s courtyard.

Curated by award-winning glass artist and SMC art instructor Terri Bromberg, “Still Blowin’ – 42 Years of Glass at SMC” features beautiful, imaginative, and extensive displays of glassworks, along with photos of glass processes. The exhibit includes comments that share the personal and unique glass experiences of the SMC students and staff who created the glassworks. Many of the exhibitors now have careers as glass artists.

The SMC glass program teaches students how to create blown, cast, fused, slumped, and torch-worked glass. “Santa Monica College is the only public institution in Los Angeles County to offer glass instruction and experience to eager students,” said Bromberg. “Lives have been changed through the thrill and wonder of working with glass.”
