Open Main Street Returns on 9/9 and 9/10 with Day of the Dog, Live Music and More Pickleball

Date:

The Open Main Street festival returns next weekend with Main Street opened for a variety of uses between noon and 7 p.m. This is the second of three street festivals on Main Street this fall.

Each Open Main Street features a beer garden, live music and a “kids corner” of family friendly events. For a full rundown of all the happenings next weekend, visit the official website.

Each Open Main Street also features some events unique to the specific event. And September’s has an event that caters to Santa Monica’s most dominant demographic: dogs.

Saturday, 9/9 is the official “Day of the Dog” from noon to 5 p.m. with events including doggie yoga, doggie brunch and doggie superhero photos. With the Santa Monica Classic the next day for the dog’s human companions to have a chance to race, it’s only fitting that the dogs have their own trilogy of races: “Running of the Bulls” (for French and English bulldogs), “You did WHAT with your Wiener” (for wiener dogs” and “If Baguettes could Run” (for corgis). For a full schedule, visit the official website.

  • On Sunday, the humans have their chance to compete whether they be at the Classic or Open Main Street as pickleball returns to the streets of Santa Monica.
  • Back by popular demand, the pop-up pickleball courts return to Main Street and Ocean Park from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday 9/10. Pickleballers of all levels are invited to join, free lessons will be available. Spectators will also get to enjoy exhibition games with experienced, high level players from 2-4. Players are free to, but not required by any stretch of the imagination, bring their own pickles or balls. Again, for a full schedule, visit the official website.

Open Main Street 3 will be the weekend of October 21 and 22.
