Community Corp. Connect: Brunson Terrace Ribbon Cutting, Upcoming Mixer

Date:

The following is the newsletter of non-profit affordable housing developer Santa Monica Community Corporation. It has three parts: an opening letter from the director, coverage of the Brunson Terrace Ribbon Cutting earlier this month, and an announcement of an upcoming mixer at Solidarity.

Dear Friends and Advocates of Affordable Housing,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer and are excited for autumn, which brings a fresh new school year, crisp-ish weather and pumpkin spice everything!

This is a short version of our Connect newsletter, to share just a few exciting pieces of news. First about we recently opened the doors to our newest property Brunson Terrace. In addition, we are excited to invite you to our 2023 in 2023 mixer on October 5th at Solidarity in Santa Monica (arguably one of the best patios in town).

This will be a celebration of the milestone of completing 2,023 affordable homes in 2023. It’ll be a chance to connect with like-minded supporters and funders of affordable housing, mingle with policymakers, meet many of our Board members and Resident Council members, and enjoy delicious Eastern European food.  Proceeds will support our services programs that envision ways to foster wellbeing for our residents.

More details below, we hope you will join us!

Warmly,
Tara

Executive Director

Brunson Terrace Ribbon Cutting!

On August 4th, Community Corp. opened the doors to the newest affordable housing development in Santa Monica. Elected officials including Santa Monica Mayor Gleam Davis, Los Angeles Country Supervisor Lindsay Horvath, City Council member Oscar de la Torre, Rent Control Board Member Ericka Lesley, and community leaders joined Community Corp to commemorate the grand opening of the property Brunson Terrace, which will strengthen the local community while advancing sustainable development goals.

Brunson Terrace will offer 48 units of affordable housing for the local community, including a variety of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. It will also include a small business marketplace and café on the ground floor, playground, parking, community garden, community room and kitchen, gym, wellness studio, on-site laundry, and outdoor picnic area. The all-electric and sustainable building is designed to meet LEED Gold standards and will include Energy Star appliances, EV charging stations, and solar panels.

Thank you to the elected officials, community advocates, and city staff from the housing, planning, building, and safety division for participating in the opening of our environmentally friendly, affordable housing building. Your contributions have been critical to the success of this ribbon cutting.
