Congratulations to 2022-23 Santa Monica Family YMCA Player of the Year, Kay Roberts.

Date:

This past week, during the halftime of the final game of the 2023 Spring youth basketball season, the 2022-23 Santa Monica Family YMCA  Player of the Year was awarded to Kay Roberts.

On hand to present the award were Kay’s former coach Rick Moncher and his daughter and Kay’s former teammate Vitalina Moncher.  Rick spoke to the crowd before his daughter Vitalina revealed the winner.  Rick seemed to know who was the winner, and told all in attendance, how Kay was not only the most skilled and best player, but also the best teammate, most dedicated, best sportsmanship, toughest player, and the most deserving of this award.  Vitalina pulled off the tape from the bottom of the trophy to announce the winner, Kay Roberts, who was totally surprised to receive the award, and was hugged by her sister Alice and her father Kelly.

Kay is the first female recipient of this most prestigious award in the history of the Santa Monica Family YMCA youth basketball program.

We wish to thank the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation and UCLA Health for making this possible with all their help and support to our program.

But mostly, all of us at the Santa Monica Family YMCA want to thank Kay Roberts for demonstrating and displaying what our youth basketball program is all about.  Congratulations, you deserve it!!
