Communities for Excellent Public Schools Endorses Incumbents Negrete and Torosis in City Council Race

Communities for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS) split their endorsement for City Council between two competing slates, choosing to endorse incumbents Caroline Torosis and Lana Negrete. CEPS did not make an endorsement for the open seat being vacated by Jesse Zwick who chose not to seek re-election.

CEPS is a coalition of parents, community members, education activists, alumni, teachers, and current and former elected city officials committed to the preservation and betterment of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

CEPS announced endorsements in the SMMUSD School Board and Santa Monica College Board earlier this year. For School Board, CEPS endorsed incumbents Alicia Mignano, Stacy Rouse and Laurie Lieberman for re-election, and Robbie Staenberg to replace Richard Tavhildran-Jesswein, who is not seeking re-election.

For the College Board, CEPS endorsed incumbents Sion Roy, Tom Peters and Luis Castanon, and Kera Blades-Snell to replace Nancy Greenstein.

CEPS is also urging a “yes” vote on Measure ES which would impose a $495 annual parcel tax on taxable properties in the city, raising an estimated $12 million a year for SMMUSD public schools, including teacher retention, student programs, and school facilities.
