The following was submitted as a “Letter to the Editor” by Ted Winterer.
Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS) has voted on its endorsements for this fall’s election to seats on the SMMUSD Board of Education and the SMC Board of Trustees.
For the SMMUSD Board we enthusiastically support Alicia Mignano, Stacy Rouse and Laurie Lieberman for re-election and believe Robbie Staenberg is highly qualified to replace Richard Tavhildran-Jesswein, who is not seeking re-election after many years of service to our school community.
For the SMC Board we believe that voters should re-elect incumbents Shy Roy, Tom Peters and Luis Castanon and that Kera Blades-Snell should replace Nancy Greenstein, another dedicated, long-tenured public servant who has chosen not to seek to retain her seat.
For over 20 years CEPS, a coalition of parents, community members, education activists, and current and former elected city officials, has advocated for robust, reliable funding for public schools that leads to high quality education that benefits our whole community.
We believe these eight candidates are the best choice to lead our TK-12 schools and local community college for the next four years.
