Ocean Park Social Club – The Jar Returns to Ocean Park (THIS Wednesday): After a wonderful first event with the national non-profit, The Jar, our friends are back for another dinner & salon. This next session will be a “Convener” model, where we invite you to bring 2-3 guests with you. This model broadens the community further, allowing us to create a more diverse room of voices. Tickets are $10/person (and includes dinner and dessert!). RSVP HERE and direct questions to samosocialclub@gmail.com and our partner abigail@jumpinthejar.org.
Save the Date: Main St. 4th July Parade: It is going to be bigger than ever this year with a party at Tongva park following the parade. It’s not too late to sign up with a float. santamonicaparade.com.
Controversial coastal development bill washes ashore with radically reduced scope and impact: “Assembly Bill 1740, authored by Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur (D-51st District), now requires Santa Monica to submit a complete proposed LCP to the commission by Jan. 1, 2029. Under the amended version of the bill, the commission must act on that submission within six months of receipt, provide the city a written list of any identified issues within 45 days, and — if it fails to act on the complete proposal within six months — submit quarterly written updates to the Legislature explaining the delay.” More details here. Assemblymember Zbur is hosting a “Virtual Town Hall: Legislative Update and Community Conversation” this Wednesday night as well. More details here.
Blue Notebook – A Weekly Recap May 31- June 6: Here is the weekly police activity update. “This week’s activity reflects a continued proactive field posture. Calls for service increased slightly from the prior week, while officer-initiated activity rose to 53% of all responses. Arrest activity remained consistent, with 98 arrests this period, and year-to-date arrests remain significantly above the same point last year.”
Zoe Muntaner Arrested: This SMDP article details that the “Perennial political candidate arrested on grand theft charges.”
EVITE Scam Alert: The Federal Trade Commission and Better Business Bureau are warning internet users of a new wave of fraud involving email invitations (evites). The emails do not specify information about the event and ask the recipient to provide passwords, access codes, or downloads. If you receive an evite that requires providing such information, DO NOT click on links or open attachments. More details here.
The Street Seen: 2919 Main St (Crescent Apts @ Kinney St): In 1912, a 2-story brick commercial building is constructed on the east side of Main St between Ashland and Pier. The upstairs is a furnished apartment/hotel. The ground floor is retail. More details here.
City Council receives annual employment vacancy report: Citywide, Santa Monica ended 2025 with a vacancy rate of 7.54%, or 158 openings among 2,123 budgeted full-time-equivalent positions. More details here.
