The following is a submission from the Pier Corporation.
Residents and guests are invited to a special “Locals’ Night for Fire Relief” on Thursday, January 23 from 3:30-10 p.m. In addition to much needed fundraising, it’s also a night of music, connection, and care for the community. Guests will enjoy amazing entertainment including Books & Cookies musical storytime, a classic car show, local DJs, vendors, a satellite bar, and so much more.
The Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park in partnership with KTLA will host the LA fire relief fundraiser to support the American Red Cross, The California Community Foundation, and Santa MoniCARES – three organizations that are helping Southern California wildfire victims find relief.
This month’s Locals’ Night focuses on giving back to those impacted by the Palisades fire, which devastated homes and businesses. The Santa Monica Pier encourages attendees to purchase gift cards from Santa Monica restaurants, shops, and small businesses and bring them to the event. These gift cards will be collected and donated to those in need.
In addition, they are assisting Palisades Charter High School to raise funds for building replacement and repairs. Immediate needs include restoring the tech infrastructure, finding temporary space for in-person instruction, funding additional buses for sports and team competitions (none can happen on campus), and replacing lost equipment. Palisades Charter High School is a public charter school that serves the immediate community, as well as students from 100-plus ZIP codes across Los Angeles. Approximately 27% of Pali High’s students are from low-income households and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. To donate directly to Pali High, please go to go.PaliHigh.org/RaisePali.
Pacific Park’s Ferris wheel will be the focal point for fundraising and programming to include the messaging: Donate to relief organizations by texting “Care” to 833-402-7341 or visit https://pacpark.com/care
The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.
