OPA Connects Meeting this Wednesday @ 12pm Features Melissa Spagnuolo (Chair of the ’28 Olympics for the City): Melissa will be discussing all things LA28. Here is the Zoom link.

  • Quarterly Mixer (Thursday Aug. 29, 4-7pm): Get to know your neighbors while checking out the new Edgemar Restaurant & Lounge (2435 Main St.).
  • FREE OPA Night @ Hollywood Bowl (Thursday Sept. 5): We have 10 tickets to “Carmen and Carnival with Dudamel” that we are raffling off to interested members (each winner gets the option of 1 or 2 tickets). The night is described as “A euphoric evening featuring the sultry streets of Seville and a fantastical circus.” More details here.   • Neighborhood Council Candidate Forum (Sunday Sept. 8, 3-5pm @ Lincoln Middle School, 1501 California Ave.): This is the only event to meet and get to know the candidates before the election.

North America’s Biggest Dog Festival to Return to Main St.: This SaMoMirror report details how “Attendees Can Participate in a 100-Foot Pool Party, Dog Races, a Foam Party for Pups and a Dog Surfing Wave Machine.” OPA will have a table at the event and need community help staffing it. Draft Safety Element Available for Public Review: The Safety Element is one of the required “elements” or components of the City’s General Plan. The purpose of the Safety Element Update is to address natural hazards and human-made hazards in the built environment. The Safety Element focuses primarily on the hazards that are most cited in California State Laws pertaining to the Safety Element of the General Plan and to federal requirements for Local Hazard Mitigation Planning.   • Coffee with a Cop (Tuesday 10am – 1pm): Target @ 5th & Broadway; Confirm time & place on their social channels because we have not seen SMPD post the details yet: facebook.com/santamonicapd
  • Housing Programs Office Hours at Virginia Avenue Park (Wednesday 4:30pm): Housing staff will be available for monthly “Office Hours” to assist applicants, in English and Spanish, with questions about the City’s Below Market Housing (BMH) and Preserving Our Diversity (POD) programs. These sessions will take place on select Wednesdays at Virginia Avenue Park (VAP) from May to August. The goal of this effort is to better support community members that wish to connect with staff in-person about these programs but are unable to make it to City Hall during normal business hours.   • Free Walk-In Legal Clinic (Wednesday 4:30 – 7pm): Santa Monica residents can meet one on one with a lawyer from Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles for help with HOUSING issues. More details here.
