City Mourns Passing of SMFD Fire Engineer Dom Smith

Date:

It is with deep regret that the Santa Monica Fire Department shares news of the passing of one of their own. Fire Engineer Dom Smith passed away on July 13, 2023, after a long and courageous battle against a work-related illness. Engineer Smith served the Santa Monica Fire Department with distinction for 22 years and began his fire service career with the Oceanside Fire Department in 1994.

In a statement posted at the city’s website, SMFD praised Smith’s service. “The Santa Monica Fire Department would like to express our sincere appreciation for Dominic’s dedication and commitment to our community in his 22 years of service in Santa Monica, and nearly 30-year career in the fire service. We are grateful for Dominic’s friendship and his endless contributions to our department and its members. Dominic’s memory is embedded in our organization’s deep history, and his legacy will live on forever.”

He is survived by his wife, Alexa, and their daughter. A celebration of life ceremony was held at St. Monica Catholic Church this morning.
