Expo Progresses Into Santa Monica, Photos by Gary and Damien

Date:

While Phase II of the Expo Line isn’t expected to be completed until 2015, with revenue operations beginning in 2016, construction of Santa Monica’s first light rail project is well underway. Last week, I had a chance to tour some of the construction sites with Stephen Villavaso while Gary Kavanagh captured some of the construction at 11th and Colorado. For more pictures of the sites at Cloverfield/Olympic and 5th/Colorado visit the Streetsblog story from earlier today. For a full show of all the pictures that Gary captured at 11th/Colorado, click here.

On 11th Street, work continues at street level. People moving North and South have to go around because the construction is blocking the intersection. I had to bike to a meeting on 11th and Santa Monica this weekend, and I certainly didn’t mind the diversion.

At Cloverfield and Olympic, I was able to climb up on the bridge for some different views.

Between 5th and 3rd, I captured a shot of Villavaso marking the end of line for the future light rail. After that, there’s some construction shots.
