Santa Monica Community Ride with the Mayor to CicLAvia Sunday

Date:

This Sunday, CicLAvia, Los Angeles’ most popular open streets event, returns to the westside with a car-free route from Culver City to Venice.

To celebrate, Santa Monica Spoke, Breeze Bike Share, and Santa Monica Mayor Ted Winterer are hosting a community ride to CicLAvia. Both CicLAvia and the community ride are free.

For the community ride, Breeze Bike Share is offering 1.5 hours free on the bikes as well as free helmets for those who RSVP here for the community ride, though people are welcome to bring their own bikes as well.

The 5.4-mile ride will start at the 17th Street Expo station at 9 a.m. and end at the CicLAvia hub in Venice. Click here for a map of the Santa Monica “feeder” ride to CicLAvia. Here’s an interactive map of the CicLAvia route itself, which will run along Venice Boulevard, Washington Place, and Washington Boulevard and is lined with local eateries and shops.

The last time a CicLAvia route ran between Culver City and Venice was in 2015 and it drew massive crowds of people skateboarding, walking, biking, and otherwise getting around by people power.

If you plan on riding the bus on Sunday, note that there will be some detours. Big Blue Bus lines 1, Rapid 12, 14, and 17 will be affected. More details are available here. Metro lines 33 and 733, which run from Main Street in Santa Monica down Venice Boulevard to Downtown L.A., will also be affected.

CicLAvia will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
