Summer may be almost over, but there is still plenty to do. This week, join PUBLIC Bikes + Gear to celebrate GoSaMo, the city’s multimodal initiative; head to Stewart Park for more Jazz on the Lawn; join in the Family Dance Jam at Tongva Park; AIKA Trading has a special family cargo bike event; Downtown Santa Monica’s signature electronic music festival, Sonic Submarine returns; and Save Ferris headlines this week’s free Pier concert.
Celebrate GoSaMo with PUBLIC Bikes + Gear
As part of its GoSaMo initiative, which aims to “educate, equip, and excite people about making the most of the new mobility opportunities the city has to offer,” Santa Monica will be celebrating with PUBLIC Bikes + Gear (2714 Main Street) this Wednesday at 6 p.m.
“Expo Light Rail has rolled into town. Breeze Bikes are cruising. Big Blue Bus connects you with more stops and more friends. Whether it’s for work, play, or every day, it’s never been easier to navigate Santa Monica,” according to officials.
“Join us on Wednesday, August 24th as we bring together the community to celebrate our friends and neighbors who are making the city easier, safer, and more fun to explore. You’ll get the chance to meet other bike enthusiasts, urban planning aficionados, and community leaders while learning how to lead a tryathlon, champion Car-Free Friday at your office, and the many other fun ways to get involved with GoSaMo,” officials said.

Venezuela OMG at Jazz on the Lawn
Jazz on the Lawn wraps up its weekly concerts through the month of August at Stewart Park (1819 Stewart St.) with the sounds of Venezuela OMG on Sunday, August 28 at 5 p.m.
“Venezuela OMG blends upbeat Caribbean music with exotic folk rhythms from Venezuela, the northernmost tropical region of South America,” according to the event’s Facebook page.
As with all the other concerts this year, there will be food trucks.
Save Ferris at the Santa Monica Pier
This Thursday, August 25, Save Ferris will play at the Twilight Pier Concert, which starts at 7 p.m.
For those who don’t know who Save Ferris is, the Pier website offers up this useful description: “SAVE FERRIS is a ska-punk band formed circa 1995 in Orange County, Southern California. Their name is a reference to the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The band formed after the dissolution of a number of Southern California bands.”

Sonic Submarine is Back on the Promenade
On Saturday, August 27 from 5 to 10 p.m., head to the 3rd Street Promenade for Downtown Santa Monica’s “signature electronic music festival Sonic Submarine,” which returns for its third year.
“Rockstar KCRW DJs Anthony Valadez, Anne Litt, and Garth Trinidad will dive deep into their vinyl crates for eclectic hour-long sets,” the event’s Facebook page reads. “Sonic Submarine pays homage to the Promenade’s roots as a street performer’s paradise where dancing in the streets is an everyday occurrence. Join in on the disco as the sun dips and disappears into the Pacific.”
Family Dance Jam at Tongva Park
Start off your Saturday morning with some family dance time at Tongva Park (1615 Ocean Ave) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“TONGVA PARK FAMILY SATURDAYS closes out the summer season with an inter-generational movement workshop for the whole family with Family Dance Jam and founder Ilaan Egeland Mazzini!” according to the event’s Facebook page.
“Featuring two 45-minute sets, the workshop incorporates both open play and directed experience, ensuring that each participant and family gets their own unique dance party,” the Facebook page reads. “Sadubas, a DJ duo that combines recorded with live drums, will provide the soundtrack, and the Family Dance Jam team of dancers will be there to help create an environment of fun and creativity.”
Family Cargo Bike Event at AIKA, the urban cycling store
Saturday, August 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., AIKA (2300 Lincoln Blvd.) will be hosting a family cargo bike event for prospective buyers.
“Test ride all types of family bikes while the kids can do arts, crafts and other fun activities! Meet like-minded people,” according to the event’s Facebook page. “Get your family equipped for a bike friendly lifestyle, and yes there will be a SALE!”
