The following is a submission from SMMUSD.
John Adams Middle School (JAMS) seventh-grade student Harrison McGee has been selected to join the 2026-27 class of Scholastic Kid Reporters, becoming one of just ten young journalists chosen from across the country.

Through Scholastic Kids Press, McGee will have the opportunity to develop his journalism skills while reporting on topics that matter to young people, including literacy, education, community and how storytelling impacts students’ lives.
Scholastic Kid Reporters, who range in age from 10 to 14, report from their hometowns and beyond, interviewing community members, educators, authors and other notable figures while sharing stories from a young person’s perspective
“I am excited to interview cool people and learn more about writing,” said McGee.
McGee enjoys writing stories, sailing and discovering new creatures for his fish tank. His favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert, and he hopes to become both a marine biologist and a writer in the future.
“We are so proud of Harrison for pursuing his passion for writing. We can’t wait to see him bring his curiosity and voice to a national audience as a Scholastic Kid Reporter,” said JAMS Principal, Dr. Martha Chacon
Since 2000, Scholastic Kid Reporters have covered stories from their communities and interviewed prominent authors, educators, public figures and leaders. The 2026-27 reporters will focus in part on literacy, classroom learning, programs that encourage reading and the impact books have on young people.
