The Following is a submission from the Pier Corporation.
Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will extend its special Ferris wheel lighting tribute honoring legendary singer, songwriter and humanitarian Dolly Parton through the weekend, expanding the custom pink lighting program that debuted Tuesday night.
The world-famous, 90-foot-tall Pacific Wheel will illuminate the Southern California coastline with an expanded tribute featuring “WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!” and “DOLLY” displayed across the Ferris wheel, along with pink hearts, pink stars and sweeping pink spiral animations.
Pacific Park’s extended tribute joins an outpouring of remembrance for Parton at landmarks and locations across the country including the Empire State Building in New York and the Willis Tower in Chicago, while fans have gathered at Parton’s statue in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee, the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate an entertainer and humanitarian whose music, generosity and joyful spirit touched generations around the world.
The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations while the programming and display software presents imaging up to 24 frames per second to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.
The Ferris wheel soars nine stories high and lifts riders more than 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean to offer extraordinary views of the Southern California coastline from its location on the internationally popular Santa Monica Pier.
