Santa Monica residents interested in shaping city policy and governance will soon have a chance to apply for dozens of openings on city boards and commissions. Applications due by noon, June 16, 2026 and can be found here.
According to the City Clerk’s Office, annual appointments to Santa Monica’s boards and commissions are scheduled for the June 23 City Council meeting, with applications now being accepted for a wide range of advisory bodies. For a full list of all the open seats and how to apply, visit the city’s official announcement.
The openings come during a period of significant restructuring for the city’s commission system. Earlier this month, the City Council approved a sweeping set of reforms intended to streamline operations, reduce staffing burdens, and consolidate overlapping functions. Among the changes approved were the merger of the Housing Commission and Human Services Commission into a new Housing and Human Services Commission, reductions in membership sizes for several commissions, and the creation of a new Restorative Justice Commission.
