The Douglas Park Playground Reconstruction Project is nearing completion, with final finishing touches underway and a soft opening expected next week. The official ribbon cutting celebration is set for Saturday, April 18, from 9–11 a.m. at the park (2349 Wilshire Boulevard), and families across the community are invited.
The project delivers a fully renovated, modern playground designed with a strong focus on accessibility, inclusive play, and nature-inspired elements. It replaces approximately 17,000 square feet of aging rubber safety surface and 20-year-old play equipment with updated structures, improved safety surfacing, enhanced seating areas, and site improvements supporting children and families of all abilities. Douglas Park is now the fifth universally accessible playground in Santa Monica, alongside Marine Park, Ishihara Park, the South Beach Playground, and the North Beach Playground.
The design was shaped by community input through two public workshops and a survey of local TK–6th graders about their favorite play equipment and inclusive community celebration planned.
