Santa Monica has not been shy about sharing its feelings about the Trump Administration. In addition to the No Kings rallies held in Palisades Park as part of the national movement, there are weekly demonstrations, at least a pair of student walkouts, and countless other acts of protest.
This Saturday’s No Kings protest in Palisades Park continued that tradition. Thousands gathered in the park, with colorful signs and clothing to remind the federal government that the country was built on personal freedoms, not centralized authority.
The “No Kings” protests are a series of demonstrations taking place across the United States, organized by grassroots groups to oppose what participants describe as growing authoritarianism in national politics. Events have been planned in cities large and small, including several in California, drawing activists concerned about democratic norms, civil liberties, and the concentration of political power.
Organizers emphasize peaceful protest and civic engagement, framing the movement as a defense of democratic institutions rather than a partisan effort. The widespread participation reflects a broader trend of national mobilization, as Americans increasingly take to the streets to express political concerns and demand accountability from leaders.
