Eagle-eyed reader (and superhero) Caro Vilain sends news and proof that the protected bikeway for Colorado Avenue is underway. This picture was snapped over the weekend of crews putting the finishing touches on the portion of the lane between 5th and 7th.
The Colorado Avenue Protected Bikeway project in Santa Monica will add a one-way, protected bike lane westbound from 17th Street to 5th Street, creating a connection between the Metro E Line and the beach.
The project fills a key gap in the city’s bike network, linking to existing protected facilities near the pier and improving access to downtown destinations. By separating cyclists from traffic, the bikeway aims to reduce collisions, encourage more people to bike, and support Santa Monica’s broader goals for safer, more sustainable transportation.
