Pacific Park’s Ferris Wheel to Shine with 90-Foot-Tall Animated American Flag for Fourth of July

Date:

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will celebrate Independence Day by lighting up the night sky with a dazzling 90-foot-tall, animated American flag on its iconic Pacific Wheel Ferris wheel. As part of a weeklong Fourth of July celebration, the Ferris wheel will join other Southern California landmarks in glowing red, white, and blue, in tribute to the holiday.

Independence Day in the United States is celebrated annually on July 4th and commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the 13 American colonies were no longer subject to the monarchy of Britain and were united, free, and independent states. July 4th is commonly celebrated with fireworks, parades, backyard barbecues, picnics at the beach, organized civic ceremonies, and much more.

The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.

The Ferris wheel soars nine stories high and lifts riders more than 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean to offer extraordinary views of the Southern California coastline from its location on the internationally popular Santa Monica Pier.
