Bike It! Walk It! Bus It!

Santa Monica students can ride Big Blue Bus free during Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week, held September 30 to October 4! This initiative encourages K-12 students and their families to choose eco-friendly transportation options, such as biking, walking, or using public transit. Here’s how you can participate:

  1. GoPass TAP CardSanta Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) students can ride free on Metro, Big Blue Bus, and other participating transit agencies in LA County all school year with a GoPass TAP Card. This includes Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week!
  2. Valid School ID: Students can also ride for free during this week by showing a valid school ID to the Big Blue Bus operator. If you don’t have a school ID, you can use a current report card, class schedule, or an official letter from your school verifying enrollment.

SoCal Transit Week

September 30 to October 4 also marks SoCal Transit Week, a collaborative effort between MoveLA, America Walks, and Week Without Driving to promote sustainable and equitable transportation alternatives. During SoCal Transit week, we encourage you to forgo driving and let Big Blue Bus take you where you need to go. Whether it’s work, school, errands, or social gatherings, Big Blue Bus offers an affordable, sustainable, and convenient alternative to driving. Join the Week Without Driving challenge and share your experience on social media using the hashtags #weekwithoutdriving #bigbluebus #socaltransitweek. Don’t forget to tag Big Blue Bus!

California Clean Air Day

On Wednesday, October 2, Big Blue Bus will offer free rides to everyone in honor of the 7th annual California Clean Air Day! Sponsored by the Coalition for Clean Air, this statewide initiative highlights how individual actions can positively impact the health of our communities and environment. By choosing a sustainable transportation option like Big Blue Bus’s Zero Emissions fleet, you can help reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution. Reducing gas consumption by just one gallon prevents 20 pounds of harmful greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere!

Take the Clean Air Pledge Today!
