League of Women Voters and Santa Monica Committee for Racial Justice Announce Candidate Forums for Council, SMMUSD, Rent Control, SMC

Date:

In an email to supporters, the League of Women Voters and the Committee for Racial Justice announced a trio of candidate forums in September and October for the local November elections.

First, on September 15th, the groups will host a forum focused on the Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education (SMMUSD) race, but will include time for the Rent Control board and SMC Trustees, even though these last two boards have uncontested races. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Thelma Terry Center at Virginia Avenue Park with a brief forum for the Rent Control and SMC Trustee candidates.

The candidates for school board will have their forum from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. All four candidates, incumbents Jon Kean, Maria Leon-Vazquez, and Jennifer Smith and challenger Christine Falaguerra are expected to attend.

At the end of the month, September 30, the League will be co-sponsoring a second forum for SMMUSD, this time co-sponsoring with the SMMUSD Council of Parent-Teacher Organizations. The forum will begin at 6:30 in the SMMUSD District Board Room, District Office. SMMUSD boardroom is at 1717 4th St. Santa Monica, CA 90401. Questions will be provided by the event co-sponsors.

On October 6, the League and Committee for Racial Justice will host a candidate forum for City Council at 6:00 p.m. back at the Thelma Terry Center at Virginia Avenue Park. All ten candidates for office have been invited.
