We’re Opening Our Piggy Bank for Our Summer Fundraising Drive

While of course Santa Monica Next is always happy to receive donations, twice a year we reach out to you, our readers, to ask for a donation to continue to support our work. Santa Monica Next is a small non-profit publication but we “punch over our weight” in terms of impact.

It’s no secret that Santa Monica has more than its share of local media, but they tend to skew right in their coverage so even with just a part-time staff, Next is an important and vital news source for the city. If it’s in your budget, please consider making a donation

This year, we were rewarded for our excellent in journalism when the Los Angeles Press Club awarded Next its award for “best local political commentary” for a short series I did on one of those issues for “Behind the Imaginary Plot to Keep Phil Brock from Becoming Mayor”, “Conspiracy theories Win Again: Council Votes Against Minor Change to Mayoral Selection Process“ and “Brock on Our Block: Phil Brock Ascends to Mayor After Low-Key Transfer of Power at Last Night’s Meeting.“

Of course, Next isn’t just me covering City Council meetings. The rest of the team has contributed important pieces attending political rallies, sampling and analyzing mobility options, and explaining how state laws impact how Santa Monica operates.

But less than two years after our relaunch, we’re just getting started, and with your help we can continue to build a bigger and better Next in the years that come.

All donations to Santa Monica Next will go through our parent non-profit and are 100% tax deductible. If you have any questions, drop me a line at damien@santamonicanext.org.
