OPA Update 6/17/24: Manager of Jameson’s Pub Killed, Make Music Day This Friday, OPA Needs July 4 Parade Volunteers, & Things To Do This Week

Manager of Jameson’s Pub Killed; Suspect in Custody: This is an update to last’s week’s report of late night arrests after “Police said a fight broke out after the manager asked several people to leave the bar.” Homicide charges have been filed. Read more in this SMDP report or this NBC4 report. A GoFundMe has been created for Jay’s family as they mourn his loss. At the time of this writing, it has raised about $11,500 out of its $20,000 goal. Here is a link to the GoFundMe.

Make Music Day (Friday 2 – 6pm): Make Music LA is a global celebration of music observed in 800 cities across 110 countries on the summer solstice inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique. Things To Do This Week: 

  • Meet the LA Rams Mascot and Cheerleaders at SMPL (Monday 10am-12pm): In celebration of Santa Monica Public Library’s Summer Reading Program: Santa Monica Reads All Summer, families are invited to meet cheerleaders and Rampage, the official mascot of the Los Angeles Rams at the Main Library. Rampage will be available for photos and will be autographing his book for children, Ride with Rampage. @ 601 Santa Monica Blvd. More details here.
  • Pedals for Progress Bike-a-Thon (Wednesday 10am & 12pm): The inaugural Pedals for Progress Bike-a-Thon, hosted by the Santa Monica Black Empowerment Association (SMBEA) in celebration of Juneteenth will feature two special rides: 10 a.m. ride: Focused on promoting sustainability, clean air, and home electrification. 12 p.m. ride: Dedicated to mental health and wellness.
