Lincoln Blvd. Task Force Meeting THIS Wednesday: Join us in the basement meeting room of the Ocean Park Library at 2601 Main St. “It looks like funding may be increased and we can talk about a refreshed e-survey. Tree-Planting Effort In Ocean Park Earns Microgrant: This SaMo Patch article details how OPA member Anya Baroff is spearheading an effort to plant trees here in Ocean Park “to support community cohesion and collaboration.”  Props to Anya!!! 
Runner Dragged by Her Hair in Assault on SaMo Beach Path: This NBC4 report details the attack on the 2000 block of Ocean Front Walk where luckily “witnesses stepped in to stop the attack and a 48-year-old suspect was arrested.”
SaMo 2024 Annual Homeless Report: Here are some key notes from the report that was delivered at last Tuesday’s City Council meeting (thanks OPA board member Robbie Leer for the notes!):The Director of Housing and Human Services requested the City Council extend the State of Emergency on Homelessness through May 31, 2025. It was approved unanimously.In the fiscal year, SaMo spent $15.3M in direct cost and $48M total on homelessness and homelessness Prevention.From the homeless count, there were 926 people in Santa Monica, a 15% increase since 2022. 6,669 people are on the Westside, a 45% increase since 2022.SMPD responded to 1,840 calls for service related to people experiencing homelessness last 12 months.

Bread & Roses is a Venice Soup Kitchen Doubling as a Culinary Training Program for LA’s Underserved Populations: This Eater LA article that in its three-decade-long run, Bread and Roses has helped hundreds of Angelenos get their foot through the door with culinary training, social and emotional learning, and job placement.
The Santa Monica Hotel @ 2102 Lincoln Blvd Ribbon Cutting: It held a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting for their extensive remodel and renaming. More details here

The SaMo Office of Emergency Management Online Presentation/Workshop on Natural Hazards (earthquakes, tsunami, flooding, etc.) (Tuesday 7 – 8:30pm): “The workshop will present information on the natural hazards that exist in Santa Monica and present potential disaster impacts. Seismic, wildfire, climate change, and flooding hazards will be covered… just to name a few. The goal of this workshop is to hear community concerns/questions and collect ideas on preparedness and mitigation measures to reduce City hazard vulnerability.” Sign up here.

Clean Beaches Committee Special Meeting (Wednesday 6:30pm): The mission of the Clean Beaches & Ocean Parcel Tax Citizens Oversight Committee is to uphold the mission of the City of Santa Monica Watershed Management Plan: to restore a healthier balance between the urban environment and the natural ecosystem, including the Santa Monica Bay, by reducing the pollution in urban runoff, reducing urban flooding, and increasing water conservation, recreation opportunities, open space, and wildlife and marine habitat. More details here.
