Event of the Week: Bike Center’s Senior Social Ride

Date:

As many of you know, the Santa Monica Bike Center is our first official sponsor. It’s thus with great pleasure that we present to you our second event of the week: the Senior Social Ride!

More and more people of every age demographic are discovering, or rediscovering, a love for bicycling. If you haven’t ridden in awhile, Bike Center’s social rides are a great way to meet new people and incorporate some mild exercise into your day. For those of you who aren’t even sure that you remember how to ride a bicycle, you don’t need to look any further than former City Councilman Bill Rosendahl for inspiration. In 2011, Rosendahl signed up for a bike safety class—his first time on a bike in four decades. Yet only less than a minute in, he had completely found his balance! If Bill can do it, so can you! Watch the video here.

Who: There is no age requirement, but all must respect the leisurely pace.

What: Bike Center manager Ron Durgin will be leading a leisurely bike ride from the Bike Center to The Broad Stage, accompanied by members of the Santa Monica Commission for the Senior Community. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a special behind-the-scenes tour of The Broad Stage, a venue that has hosted a wide range of cultural and musical events, from jazz legends to classical music to Shakespeare. The total round trip distance will be roughly seven miles.

When: Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10 am

Where: The ride meets at the Santa Monica Bike Center, 1555 2nd St. at Colorado.

Cost: This event is free to attend for all members of the community! Furthermore, the Bike Center will provide complimentary bikes, helmets, and locks for those who do not have their own.
