OPA Update 4/1/24: Details on OPA April 8 Meeting, Construction Amendments at SMASH / John Muir Campus, & Things To Do This Week

OPA April 8 Monthly Meeting Next Monday: This month’s meeting will be at the Beach House CoWork (2219 Main St. @ Strand) starting with food and mingling at 6:15pm. We will also be hybrid on Zoom.   • 7:00 – 7:15pm: SMPD update focus on Patrick Cheng from Office of Emergency Management 
  • 7:15 – 7:30pm: Ericka Lesley, Rent Control Board
  • 7:30 – 7:40pm: Santa Monica Conservancy & Main St. Tours
  • 7:40 – 8:30: Board business, including upcoming calendar of events (MAINopoly, Make Music Day, July 4 Parade, & more)

School Board Approves Construction Amendments at SMASH / John Muir Campus: This SMDP write-up details the changes there as well as changes at Samohi. “The new amendment includes necessary seismic retrofitting, water remediation and reconstruction efforts for [multiple] campus buildings.” “The SMASH and John Muir endeavor is anticipated to be completed by August 2025, allowing the campus to reopen for students.”

Provide Feedback on the Proposed 2024-25 CDBG/HOME Annual Action Plan: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides annual entitlement funds to the City of Santa Monica. As a recipient of these federal funds, HUD requires the City to develop a five-year Consolidated Plan along with Annual Action Plans for housing and community development which identify high priority needs and the associated goals, strategies, and resources anticipated over a five-year period. the City of Santa Monica has developed a Proposed 2024-25 Annual Action Plan, and the public can give feedback on it by 4/22 by email to humanservices@santamonica.gov
